Kriegsmarine Kriegsberichter:
Leutnant zur See, Marinepropagandaabteilung West (Paris):
Kriegsmarine Kriegsberichter worked in Marinepropaganda command as parts of Abteilung located to cover Naval operations. As with the war reporter elements of the Heer, Luftwaffe u. Waffen-SS the staff was a mix of both officer, enlisted, and Sonderführer.
This Leutnant zur See leads a Propaganda Zug that contains various media such as still and motion photography, sound recording, reporters, and artists. The Leutnant’s Mantel displays a Schulterklappen backed in Kriegsmarine navy blue wool with an anchor identifying him as a Kreigsberichter. He may also wear a special white armband with the letter P.K. (Propaganda Kompanie) to ensure he has access to the story. Made of heavy wool the Mantel protects against the biting sea winds on the coast.
The is worn over the standard Kriegsmarine uniform with various headgear, in this case, the Bordmütz für Offizier. Assigned to Marinepropagandaabteilunt West, headquartered in Paris, his Zug concerns itself with reporting on naval operations from the U-boat pens located along the French coast as well as the heavy naval gun emplacements lining the coast from Holland to Spain, including the Channel Islands.
Now, why the separate section for this uniform, well I had ambitious ideas at the time…we’ll see what develops though.
